The Transportation Services Authority Has A New Name

The Transportation Services Authority (TSA) has been renamed the Nevada Transportation Authority (NTA) to help eliminate confusion with the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA).  The name change was one of the provisions of Assembly Bill (AB) 497 approved by the 2007 Nevada Legislature and signed into law by Governor Jim Gibbons.

The Nevada Transportation Authority (NTA) administers and enforces state laws pertaining to passenger transportation, household goods movers, storage of household goods, and tow cars.

The NTA has been charged with the responsibility of providing for fair and impartial regulation, to promote safe, adequate, economical and efficient service, and to foster sound economic conditions in motor transportation.  In addition, the NTA encourages the establishment and maintenance of reasonable charges for intrastate transportation by fully regulated carriers and non-consent towing services.

Under NRS 706, the Nevada Transportation Authority has statewide regulatory responsibility for the household goods industry, the tow car industry, the bus industry, and the limousine industry.  In addition, the NTA has responsibility for the taxicab industry throughout the state except in Clark County.  Statutory Authority: NRS 706.
